This weekend I’m going to give you one good reason why you should join your family and partake in that season tradition of picking apples…….even though you dread the day every year.
Enter the Apple & Pear Cocktail and your new favorite fall drink
Apple & Pear Cocktail
- 1.5 oz Stolichnaya Gala Applik Vodka
- 1.5 oz Pear juice
- .75 oz Vanilla-Nutmeg Syrup*
- .5 oz Fresh lime juice
- 5 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 oz Hard cider
*Vanilla Nutmeg Syrup
- 2 cups Sugar
- 2 cups Water
- 2 tsp Ground nutmeg
- 6 Vanilla beans, cut in half lengthwise
For the syrup – Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Let the syrup cool completely and strain into a closed container. Store in the refrigerator.
And now the cocktail. Add all the ingredients except the cider to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a double Old Fashioned glass filled with fresh ice. Top with the cider and garnish with an apple slice and a sprinkle of grated nutmeg.
Granted you only need one apple, grab a few extras and when you go to grocery store to grab the pear juice, don’t forget the caramel. Now when you’ve committed your good deed and patiently listened to your younger sister yell endlessly over a rotten apple your dad wouldn’t let her pick, you can come home and unwind to a sweet treat and stiff drink….hopefully in a bit of piece and quiet.
